Tonia Smith is an Adult Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) and Board Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Tonia received her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA). While a student at UTA, she received awards for clinical and academic excellence and was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing in May 2005.
Prior to completing her MSN, Tonia was employed as an RN for several years at Heart of Texas Region MHMR in Waco, serving the needs of the seriously mentally ill patients. After completing her MSN, she practiced at this same facility as a Nurse Practitioner, serving the adult and adolescent population for two years. She has six years experience as a PMHNP and has worked with Dr. Grant for the past four years. Areas of specialty include anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders and ADHD. Tonia works collaboratively with Dr. Grant to diagnose and treat mental health disorders.
Tonia is a member of the American Nurses Association, American Psychiatric Nurses Association and Neuroscience Education Institute. She has been a Preceptor for the UTA Graduate School of Nursing for the past five years.
Tonia has lived in the DFW area for four years. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, outdoor activities and traveling.
